General Information
TimingStandard medical practice is to measure the length of a pregnancy as weeks from the first day of the last period, not from the date of conception. Therefore, a woman is considered to be already two weeks pregnant on the date of conception. This timeline is a standard calculation used by all clinics, obstetricians and ultrasound doctors. We perform abortions from the moment that a woman has a positive pregnancy test to approximately 23 weeks from the first day of the last normal period. In every situation, we perform an ultrasound exam to confirm and/or determine the length of gestation. How to Prepare We ask that you not eat heavily for several hours prior to the appointment, as nausea during the procedure and immediately afterwards is not uncommon. If you receive IV medication during the procedure, we require you to avoid driving immediately afterward. Most women are able to return to normal activity the following day.
